The present firm of William Saunders was originally founded in 1846 and is today a combination of several architectural Practices going back many years.

The original founders of the Practice were George Sheppard (Architect and Surveyor) and Captain H.W. Lockton who had been articled to him, and became a Partner and sole owner after the death of Mr. George Sheppard.

After the death of Captain H.W. Lockton on 8th December 1924, Mr. John Saunders (Father of William Saunders) purchased his Practice and then practiced as Sheppard, Lockton and Saunders.

The firm carried on as Sheppard, Lockton & Saunders for several years, with the office personnel gradually increasing in number.

One of the biggest changes to the Practice in recent years was the need for the head office to relocate in 2006 due to the continued expansion of the business. The Newark office moved from its premises on Castle Gate to a new purpose built, modern office complex on Beacon Hill Business Park in Newark.

Sheppard Lockton House was designed by our Newark Architects and Engineers and the ribbon was cut on 15th December 2006. The new larger premises complement our other offices in Nottingham, Leeds, London and Cardiff and will allow the continued growth of the Practice in the coming years.

At the end of 2009, the decision was taken to re-brand Wm. Saunders Partnership LLP to William Saunders. Our new logo and brand identity simplifies and streamlines our image; it is easily recognisable and reflects the core values and disciplines of the Practice. It also encompasses the wide range of construction related services which we offer as a business.

We hope that all of our Clients and colleagues in the wider industry will quickly get used to calling us William Saunders. We look forward to providing the same high quality of service that our Clients have come to expect across the whole range of our activities.
