Hinckley Club

Winner of the RICS East Midlands Award 2011 in the Community Benefit category, this £5.7m state of the art youth facility has been designed to be sustainable, both in terms of longevity and environmental aspects with minimisation of running costs being a key aspect of the brief.

The facility includes a large variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including two sporst halls, youth play area, a climbing tower, recording studio, bmx track and skatepark. To compliment the youth provision, a community bar/function room has been incorporated which aims to attract parents and the wider community in to the building to help fund the running of the youth club.

The design includes ground source heat pumps and solar panels for a combined heating and hot water system, rainwater harvesting and passive ventilation as well as high efficiency lighting withPIRcontrols where possible.

Less than a year after opening, Club membership is up from around 300 to nearly 2,000, which is a credit to all the Committee and design team who have clearly ‘hit the nail on the head’ with the youth provision.

The scheme was jointly funded by myplace (under the Big Lottery) and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
