Barrowfield Business Park, Thurnscoe

William Saunders has recently overseen the handover of a new 25,000sq.ft industrial development at the former Hickleton Colliery in Thurnscoe, Barnsley on behalf of developer, Priority Space. Barrowfield Business Park provides 15 new units suitable for industrial, storage and distribution use which are available to purchase or lease.

The site originally accommodated the Hickleton Main Colliery winding house, power house and other ancillary buildings as well as the central mine shaft. The main challenge associated with the development were the remediation works with many of the heavily reinforced foundations and slabs still in-situ and needing removal. An enabling earthworks package was procured which removed, sorted and crushed the various obstructions followed by an engineering fill operation to form the necessary development platform.

The project was part funded by the Sheffield City Region Jessica Fund and achieved a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.
