MIEP University of Nottingham
The Modelling of Interdisciplinary Engineering Processes Facility is a research building for the University of Nottingham and is situated on their main campus.
The Centre is situated adjacent to an earlier building designed by William Saunders, the Nottingham Centre for Pavement Engineering.
Valued at £2.2 million, the MIEP provides flexible research and workshop space arranged around a main circulation atrium. The science area of the University is of a more urban character than the rest of the campus and the site for the new facility was quite restricted. Nevertheless, the atrium is a well daylit space which functions as the main vertical circulation space for the building. It provides the valuable forum for ‘accidental’ meetings so important for interaction in University buildings.
