Skegness Pier

In 2015, coastal flooding in Skegness caused severe damage to it’s famous pier and the owners called on the team at William Saunders to assist in the reinstatement works.

The coastal storm surge led to sea levels being raised to more than 20 feet above their normal levels, level with the deck of the pier. This resulted in the sea defences being breached and Skegness Bowling and Laser Quest being flooded. At its worst, the bowling and laser quest areas were flooded with over 3 feet of water, covering the entire ground floor of the pier buildings, saturating the whole of the indoor ten pin bowling alley and the Laser Quest facility.  The bowling centre consists of ten lanes, a licensed bar, a Laser Quest arena and several fast food, coffee and snack bars.

Acting as Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Clerk of Works and CDM Co-ordinators, turned the entertainment facility back into a live operation within 16 Weeks of the flood, allowing it to re-open for the busy Easter period. The majority of this time allocated to the ordering and reinstatement of the bowling lanes as these were specially ordered from the USA.  The building is owned and operated by UK Piers Ltd. and is located adjacent to Skegness Beach, under the historical Pier of Skegness.
